It is important for an organisation to have clear and well communicated goals. On top of that, everyone in the organisation must sing the same tune. In this way, the organisation can move forward together towards the goals.
The C2015 student outcomes provide a guide for me to design programmes for students which can equip them with skills they need when they go out to the society in future.
C2015 gives very clear outcomes and it summarized the holistic development of a child. It helps teachers and School leaders to realign our strategies to achieve all the outcomes. It is important to have the outcomes at the back of ourm ind as we design students' learning experiences.
we need to think outside the box to meet the needs of our students, in creating students who are confident, concerned, self-directed and active learners....
If we work hard towards making the 5 in 1 curriculum work, then we should be doing less and yet getting desired goals. Like Mr Werner said, maximum output with minimum input.
The morning session has been a fruitful one. The direction that the school will be embarking is inline with the MOE's direction for the future. It is always good to step back and reflect on what are the things that we have been doing in our school. Often we are preoccupied with our daily matters that we often did not really see the intent of the programme/initiatives that we been doing.
Unpacking the C2015 outcomes has been fruitful as it allow us to internalise the true meaning and traits of students in the 21st century. I also have the opportunity to see the gaps between what we need to achieve and what we have currently have in our school.
From here, we can start to list down the our own meaning and understanding of the possible traits of students based on C2015 and strategies to achieve this outcome.
Direction is made succinct. However i feel sufficient time has to be given for us to refine and put processes in place so that good effective programmes do not 'die' with the driver.
It is important to have various inputs and reviews, and to gather rich experiences when strategies are crafted and initiatives are to be implemented. We must always be mindful and realistic of targets that must be achievable by our students. - by Whey
I think it helps that we can discuss these pertinent issues. Like what Mdm Shanti said, it is nothing new. Things that we have been talking about all this while. It keeps us focused on what are duties and responsibilities are.
I think the obstacle is getting the message (without any loss in meaning and objective) to the entire school teaching (and sometimes non-teaching) staff.
Like what Alvin Tofler said we should unlearn and relearn.Likewise we should relook at our goals and programmes.Take out things that don't seem to be making any headway and 'restrategise'to achieve our goals. The 5 in 1 for eg is a wonderful idea that we can capitalise on next year. Suriya
good session and platform for KP in coversation. Good interaction and brainstorming of ideas, strategies and programmes to realise C2015 and school mission. Should do this more often.
The C2015 Student Outcomes is a very thought provoking and useful document. It has set me/us thinking and reviewing the existing Desired Outcomes of Education. I think that these 4 traits do reflect the needs and demands of the 21st century. It is good that we look to nurture pupils beyond academic excellence. At PYSS, we may need to work very hard at helping our pupils in the area of "confidence." Many enter school with low self-confidence and require help and opportunities to develop this trait. On the other hand, we must beware the other negative trait of overconfidence and arrogance. The increasing emphasis on Pupil Development and leadership is an excellent move towards this end - Sam
Some strategies for consideration when designing learning experiences
Self-Directed Learner: a) Student Ownership (e.g. HOPE programme: habit of setting learning goals not necessarily only academic) b) self assessment of learning (SEL Competencies) based on a set of observable behaviour. This can be a standard form used for outdoor or out of classroom learning experiences. c) Important to facilitate student sharing of learning to affirm, to be self aware of strengths (e.g. Forest adventure facilitation by teachers) d) Project work is a KEY platform for C2015. Plan it well. Designing the right (meaningful & authentic) task based on the learning outcomes and needs (of student, community)is critical.
The circle time on student outcome for 2015 was very rich. The inputs by colleagues help me have a bigger perspective on education in Ping Yi - Glynne
ReplyDeleteAligning existing initiatives to develop a holistic learner more effectively
ReplyDeleteTo begin with the end in mind... Quoted from Gabriel n Mr Kwan...
ReplyDeleteIt means we need to be very conscious in the design of the learning experience for our students.
ReplyDeleteThere is a gap to where we want to be and we need to work strategically (not necessarily harder or more) towards the goals.
Have the end in mind (student outcomes) when we plan or organise any prog for the staff.

Begin with the end in mind! Factoring in the desired outcomes in designing our learning experience! ...... key take away from our gp 3 Circle Time

Teacher motivation to achieve student outcomes varies on a continuum. What is more important, we persevere!
ReplyDeleteRelooking at our goals so as to align to wider educational context. Ensuring strategies and processes to achieve C2015 student outcomes.
ReplyDeleteWe have a part in crafting these processes and strategies...... aka ownership.

I have a better understanding of an overview of the school directions. This will helps me in aligning and charting goals for 2010.
