  1. If I were the HOD English, I would improve the processes to teach and assess language skills. I would introduce oral proficiency portfolio and structured oral skills lessons in secondary 1 to improve students' oral proficiency. As the HOD English, I have adopted a consultative approach in mentoring my staff; introduce language arts at lower secondary which is a broad based and integrative approach to teaching language skills; more generous makan sessions for English language teachers as an incentive for their hard work.

    2. Assessing students' competency in physical fitness at the beginning of the year
    3. Developing swimming proficiency among Secondary 1s, a very important lifeskill

    2 things I would do:
If I were PE HOD, I would make the niche CCAs, like tchoukball, a compulsory module and select the best students for the CCA.

  8. Suriya, congrats, you have done well in the following areas:
    - grooming AYH 3 to assume YH role during your absence on EPDL
    - managing students' issue that were assigned to you by your level teachers
    - leading your level teachers in identifying the ABE list and surfacing strategies to help these students

2 things that I would do if I were YH3
    - in addition to YH duties, I would spearhead curriculum innovation within MTL department and be a coach and mentor to the teachers wherever there is a need.
    - rally level teacher to track learning profile and progress and work how to raise your performance and character development

I think I would like to change the way Sec 3 students gather, settle at morning assembly and conduct themselves in the presence of their younger counterparts. In short, I will work on impressing on the Sec 3 the importance of self discipine and self directed learning.I would start with the measures to get the Sec 3 students to lead and be good role models for the younger students.... Suriya do you think this is do-able?

    a. Crafted the REAL framework
    b. Able to create a relax and non threatening working environment
    c. Enhancing and improving the use of ICT in school

  18. THREE things done well by the person:
a)she has put in place a good reading programme with the supply of readers, newspapers, etc
b)she oversees a systematic and organized library committee
c)she encourages the use of library through the organization of library visits , book promotions, worksheets for book reviews, etc

TWO things I would do if I were the person:
a)train librarians to use broadcasting facilities to read out stories/book reviews/poems, etc
b)liaise with HODs IP on how library can further help students improve in their subject/interest area - research work, quizzes, selected recommended readings, workbooks, etc

ONE thing I would change if I were the person:
a)Suggest that more teachers be given a chance to be teacher-librarians (rotational)so as to understand better the workings of the library and the important role the library plays in a school. At present very few teachers visit the library perhaps because they don't see the need/importance of the library. When teachers actually understand what the library has to offer and how they can help students and teachers, they are more compelled to encourage their students to do. They may be able to give good feedback on how the library can be more effective as a resource centre.

  25. 3 Things That Were Done Well:

    1) The Sec4/5 students are very focused this year. They have also improved in their behaviour. This can be evidently seen in the daily morning assembly. They follow instruction, they are very attentive and they are on task. Hence, the culture is very conducive and the students are generally more motivated and

    2) The Sec 4/5s have a very meaningful and touching graduation ceremony. The theme aptly summaries their engaging journey in Ping Yi Sec and they outlook they should adopt when they progress to institutes of higher learning.

    3) I’m also very glad that SEL competency is introduced into the Sec 4/5 cohort, especially in the last stage when our kids needed the additional encourage to keep going. Besides focusing on ST 1 (academic excellence), YH 4 and AHY 4 did not neglect the emotional needs of our Ping Yians. Banners were strategically displayed to encourage and motivate them. YH 4 and AYH 4 also get the juniors to pen encouraging words to keep the seniors going, etc.

    2 New Things to Try:

    1) Getting the graduating class to coordinate the Graduation Ceremony. Getting them to submit proposal by end of Semester 1.
    2) Study camp (core subject) for weaker students during June vacation

    1 Thing Suggestion:

    1) A series of motivational talk, just for the graduating classes. It should be differentiated according to the needs of different streams. The focus will be to allow Ping Yians to see that they CAN achieve and they are able to taste SUCCESS.

    Cheers,
